Executive Assistant & Engagement Associate

Laura Flanders Limited, a social justice media organization founded by journalist and activist Laura Flanders, is seeking an Executive Assistant and Impact Associate to help build the organization’s budget, audience and impact. LFL fosters positive social change through writing, public speaking, live events and the production of mission-driven media including The Laura Flanders Show. Launched in 2008 as GRITtv, The Laura Flanders Show reaches millions of viewers weekly on the Dish Network and DIRECTV, as well as on cable stations nationwide, as a podcast, and in multiple formats online. The program features innovative thinkers and doers with reality-based strategies for realizing radical change.  LFL also offers media training and production services. Flanders is a contributing writer to The Nation and Yes! Magazine, as well as the author of six books.

 

The ideal candidate for this position will be highly organized; familiar with the national landscape of social justice work; be resourceful, detail-oriented and able to work both independently and as part of a small, passionate team.  While this position offers vast opportunities for growth and career development and the Executive Assistant & Engagement Associate may contribute to all activities of the company, the duties of this position specifically include:

 

  • Conserves Executives’’ time by reading, researching, and routing correspondence; drafting letters, reports and documents; collecting and analyzing information; initiating telecommunications.

  • Maintains company appointment schedule by planning and scheduling meetings, conferences, teleconferences, grant applications and reports and travel.

  • Produces information by drafting reports, formatting, inputting, editing, retrieving, copying, and transmitting text, data, and graphics including posting to social media.

  • Welcomes guests and clients by greeting them, in person or on the telephone; answering or directing inquiries. May attend meetings in executives’ place.

  • Oversees and expands the company’s media training program.

  • Maintains office supplies and oversees general operations of a small, collaborative media company.

 

BASIC REQUIREMENTS

  • Education: Bachelor’s

  • Work experience:  minimum 2 years

  • Non-technical skills: Strong organizational and communications skills.

  • Great flexibility and ability to problem-solve.

  • Record of engagement with social justice movements and/or movement media.






TECHNICAL SKILLS:

 

Writing Skills, Reporting Skills, Supply Management, Scheduling, Microsoft Office Skills, Organization, Time Management, Presentation Skills, Equipment Maintenance, Travel Logistics, Verbal Communication. Should be proficient in Photoshop, InDesign, NationBuilder and Excel.
