Laura Flanders Limited (LFL), a social justice media organization founded by journalist and activist Laura Flanders, is seeking a Social Media & Communications Intern to help manage our newsletter and social media channels and drive engagement.
LF Ltd. is a media organization with a movement-building agenda. Our work comes from deep listening, partnering, hosting, and convening conversations with the world’s most marginalized experts. Laura Flanders says, “when someone tells me their story, they do it because they trust me to share it. I cannot uphold my end of this commitment without media outlets that share my mission to speak truth, no matter what.” The work we create comes out of a belief that media wealth is essential in building a new economy where the arc of history bends toward justice. Flanders is a contributor to The Nation and Yes! Magazine, as well as the author of six books.
The Laura Flanders Show is available in more than 100 million homes internationally through the teleSUR News Network, and in 30 million homes in the US through the LinkTV and Free Speech TV networks.
Among our recent guests are Cornel West, Noam Chomsky, and Arundhati Roy, and we have recently featured exclusive reporting on worker-owned co-ops, the issues behind the uprisings in Baltimore and Ferguson, and sex work in Alaska.
The Social Media & Communications Intern’s duties specifically include the following:
● Checking our Facebook, Twitter, and Youtube channels daily and engaging our followers with content from our weekly episodes and archives
● Responding to comments and jumping into online conversations to increase the reach and engagement of our content
● Sharing content from our content collaborators’ channels and retweeting allies posts
● Preparing our weekly podcast and audio commentary for publishing on our social media channels
● Working with the Engagement and Communications Director to produce posts for our social media channels
Social media and Communications experience is required. A clear record of effective initiative-taking and multi-tasking/time management is a must. Beginner's design proficiency in Photoshop is necessary.
The ideal candidate will be familiar with the non-profit or values-driven media world and the national landscape of social justice work, especially in the world of the solidarity economy, be resourceful, detail-oriented, able to work both independently and as part of a team, and be able to problem solve and meet deadlines.
This is a 15 hour per week, part time position, with a modest stipend and flexible work hours, mostly off-site (with an option to work in office).
Women, people of color, elders, LGBTQ people, and people with disabilities are actively encouraged to apply. We are a workplace actively committed to fighting racism, patriarchy homophobia, and economic injustice.
Please send resume and cover letter describing career goals and social justice passions to email@example.com. We are looking to make a hire immediately so please apply as soon as possible.
